Tracing a leak and a stuck cycle

A front-loader can leak from several points: a torn or mouldy door gasket — the rubber boot — a loose or split hose, a cracked detergent dispenser, or an overwhelmed drain system that pushes water back out. When the machine also refuses to unlock, we check whether the door lock assembly has failed, whether a drain fault is holding water above the safe level, and whether the control board is reading an error and refusing to release the latch. Where the water appears — at the front of the door, under the front-left corner, or behind the cabinet — narrows the search considerably, which is why we ask you to note it when you call. Top-loaders show the same logic in a different shape: the fill, drain and lid-lock steps each get tested in the order the cycle runs.

Safe checks before the visit

Before booking, wipe the door gasket and look for trapped coins, hairpins or a torn section; a surprising number of leaks and odours start right there. If your model has a drain filter behind the lower kick panel, clearing lint and debris can restore drainage — but keep a towel down, because water will run out when the cap comes off. Make sure the supply hoses at the back are snug and not weeping at the connections. Do not force a locked door open, do not run another cycle to try to “clear” a leak, and if the unit sparks, smells hot or trips a breaker, switch it off and leave it for inspection.

Condo and house access in Toronto

Toronto laundry setups vary widely, and access shapes the visit. For a stacked washer-dryer in a downtown or North York condo, clearance is tight and the units often have to be worked on in place — tell us it is a stacked unit when you book. For condo buildings, arrange concierge check-in, elevator booking and parking in advance so the appointment window is not spent waiting in the lobby. In a Scarborough or Etobicoke house, a basement or main-floor laundry usually offers more room, but a clear path to the machine still helps the visit run smoothly. Repair or replace?

We will tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense. A new gasket, drain pump, door lock or hose on a machine that is otherwise in good shape is a sensible fix and normally sits within the usual price range. A washer with a failed main bearing, a cracked drum spider or several simultaneous faults on an older unit may be near the end of its useful life, and we will say so rather than sell you a partial repair that will not last. The diagnostic is $89 and is waived with repair. Most repairs are $150-$350, and new customers receive $40 off any repair.
