Washer Leaking Water? Find the Safe Next Step
Stop and note where the water appears
Pause the machine if it is safe, keep people away from the wet area and shut off the supply taps if water continues flowing. Note whether the leak begins while filling, washing or draining and whether it appears at the front, rear or beneath the cabinet. That pattern is more useful than moving the washer and losing the evidence.
Common serviceable leak sources
Visible fill and drain hoses, the drain pump, dispenser path and a front-loader door boot are common inspection points. A loose connection behaves differently from a torn gasket or a pump that leaks only while running. We do not recommend removing panels or tipping a heavy washer to look underneath.
Prepare for diagnosis
Photograph the water pattern, record any code and have the model number ready. Stop using the washer if it trips power, smells hot or leaks near an outlet. Diagnosis identifies the actual source before a repair price is proposed.

Washer Leaking Water? Find the Safe Next Step — quick answers
Can I keep using a washer with a small leak?
No. Even a small leak can damage flooring or reach electrical components, so stop using it until the source is understood.
Why does the washer leak only during spin?
A drain hose, pump, seal or movement-related connection may leak only when water is being expelled or the tub is moving quickly.
Can too much detergent cause a leak?
Yes. Excess or incorrect detergent can create oversudsing, but recurring water still needs careful inspection.
