Dryer Squeaking? What the Sound Can Mean Before Repair

A dryer squeak is easy to hear but not always easy to identify. The sound may be brief at startup, constant while the drum turns, or more noticeable with a heavy load. Rather than trying to silence it with a spray or repeated test cycles, document the pattern and arrange diagnosis if the sound continues.

Listen for the timing and character of the sound

Note whether the squeak begins immediately, appears only after the dryer warms up, or changes as the drum turns. Is it a short chirp, a high-pitched continuous squeal, a scrape or a rhythmic thump? Does it occur with an empty drum, with a normal load, or only with heavier items? These details help distinguish a drum-movement concern from a sound that may be connected to another function.
