Electric Dryer Overheating or Too Hot? Stop and Check
Stop using excessive heat
End the cycle if the cabinet, clothing or laundry room seems abnormally hot, if there is a burning smell, or if the dryer repeatedly shuts off. Clean the lint screen and confirm the exterior outlet is not visibly blocked without dismantling ductwork.
Heat must cycle and airflow must move
A thermostat, thermistor, heating relay or element can fail, while restricted airflow can trap heat and trigger protection. Simply replacing a thermal fuse without finding why it opened may lead to another failure.
Book prompt diagnosis
Keep the dryer off if it trips power or restarts only after cooling. Provide the model number and describe whether heat is excessive on every cycle or only one setting.

Electric Dryer Overheating or Too Hot? Stop and Check — quick answers
Is a very hot dryer a fire risk?
Excess heat should never be ignored. Stop using the dryer until airflow and appliance controls are checked.
Can a clean lint screen rule out airflow trouble?
No. Restrictions can exist farther along the vent path or within accessible appliance airflow components.
Do you clean house dryer vents?
Riko repairs the electric dryer itself; full building-vent cleaning may require a dedicated vent service.
